1958 Gibson Les Paul Special

After I graduated from college my wife and I moved to Colorado where I joined a great company, Hewlett-Packard. Almost immediately I found out there was an office rock band. They actually needed a solo guitarist and ask me to join them. Being right out of college with school loans to pay off, buying a guitar and amp wasn’t in the picture. That wasn’t going to stop them, one of the guys who was a manager told me go look for a guitar and amp he’d pay for it and let me pay him back over time.

I looked all over the Denver area for guitars and amps. I finally visited a small music store in Boulder where I found a 1958 Les Paul Special for sale. It was a little worn but still played well. The tuners still worked well and the electronics were sound. I can’t remember what I paid for it but I know it wasn’t much since I was borrowing the money. It was a great guitar and I loved the P-90s on it. I thought I’d never sell it but after my son was born I need for cash and let it go.

The guitar below is a Gibson 1956 Les Paul Special. It looks almost identical to the 1958 I had minus a lot of dings and scratches. Mine had definitely been a gigging guitar.
