1961/62 Fender Tremolux

Right after I moved to the University of Kentucky my father who was in the Air Force got transferred to March AFB just outside Riverside, California. After one semester at the Univ.of Ky, I decided move to California and live with my parents while figured out what I really wanted to do. I attended Riverside City College where I met some local musicians. At some point we started a band playing ZZ Top and other current rock.

I needed an amp and started looking around at all the local music shops in the LA valley. I found an old creme Fender Tremolux head with a 2 ten cabinet. I never looked up the serial # to see what year it was but I know it was either a 61 or 62. It was in the back of the store, dirty as heck, stained and seemed to have been forgotten. I was able to buy it for around $300. I took it a part, put new tubes in it (Groove tubes – a small store at the time) and cleaned it up. All the grunge came off the tolex and looked pretty good in the end. It was a great amp and perfectly loud for what we were playing. I loved the tone I got from it with the SG I was playing at the time. Probably one of the better amps I’ve owned. I really liked having the head / cabinet combination. The cabinet was closed but I tried playing with it open as well. I liked the tone better when it was closed. Below are some pictures of what my amp looked like at the time.
