1974 Gibson SG

In 1974 I sold my Telecaster and bought a new (1974) Gibson SG Custom – white. When I saw this guitar in the store I was just like a moth to the light. It was bright white and I just had to have it. It was not yellowed like the one in the picture below. I’m pretty sure the one below was a white SG and over the years has aged to a nice yellow.

I was working two jobs in High School and had the cash. I loved the neck and tone was so different from playing the Telecaster. Closer to tones I had been trying to get. The was only one problem… I hated the middle humbucker. I was always catching it when I played. I’d miss notes when I hit it. After a few weeks I decided I just couldn’t keep it. So took it back to the guitar store I bought from and said I needed something that would give me the tone without the middle pickup. I’m sure I made the dealer happy because he didn’t give me what I had just paid him for it because now it was “used”. I found this on the internet and it is exactly like my old SG guitar.
